Jean and me at Estelle's wine and cheese party
A day in the life here in Paris: Yesterday I woke up around 6:30am like I usually do and stumbled to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. My commute to work is about 45 minutes with two different changes. I walk out my door down the hill to the metro, take it 2 or 3 stops and make a change to the next line which I take about 10 or 15 stops. Around noon I finish work at the Montessori school.
At school I have started bringing my guitar once a week, usually on Thursday and singing some English songs for the children. My experience so far has convinced me that "The wheels on the bus" is a magic song. As soon as I take out my guitar 9 or 10 two-three year olds get almost silent. It's a miracle. This week we added Twinkle twinkle little star and ABC's to our repertoire. They love the ABC's! At the end of the songs they spontaneously burst into applause and shouted "bravo" - no joke. Welcome to France! The delight that the "wheels on the bus brings" to them is magic.
The weather has made a sudden turn here in the last week so I have dug through my suitcases for warm coats and scarfs and gloves. Paris in the fall is beautiful like Paris any time of year. Recently I love the sound of crunching leaves under my black boots. All this cold weather is inspiring fall foods. Jean and I are becoming experts in Apple Pie.
Funny, I had never attempted an apple pie in the United States and in the last month here in Paris, we have made 3 of them. On Thursday evening we had dinner with some friends and brought an apple pie that was our best so far. There is an apple tree in Jean's garden so far our supply of apples is plentiful. The secret to a good apple pie: lots of cinnamon!
This weekend I am going to Verticale, the worship time here which gathers Christians from around Paris. The location is changing this year and the vision is focused on the Beatitudes. Verticale is a place for Christians who are gathered in different groups around the city to come together and seek God. Afterwards there is a Classical Music Worship gathering called "Crescendo" at a church that we have been visiting in the Marais district of Paris. This is a worship service through the disciple of classical music. Please pray for these events this weekend if you are so inclined!
